ESSAY 2000-2001

1. Why are you seeking an M.B.A. or I.M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business? What do you hope to experience and contribute? What are your plans and goals after you receive your degree?

2. Ten years from now, an alumnus/a from Chicago calls you on the phone. Where will the phone ring, what will you be doing, and what wisdom will you be able to impart to them?

3. If you were to bury five items, to be dug up in 250 years, that best describe you and your accomplishments, what would those items be and why?

4. If you could be any age for the rest of your life, what age would you be and why?

5. If you could receive any award, who would present it and for what reason would it be given?

6. For IMBA only: describe a recent international issue or event that has had a negative effect on the business or economic climate of a particular region of the world. How would you address this issue? What are the implications of your approach?

 

ESSAY 2001-2002

1. Why are you seeking an M.B.A. or I.M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business? What do you hope to experience and contribute? What are your plans and goals after you receive your degree? (750 words maximum)

2. What are two attributes of your character that make you unique? How do you expect these attributes to make an impact on the GSB and your classmates? (300 words maximum)

3. If you could pick three guests for a formal dinner, who would they be and why would you choose them? (300 words maximum)

4. For I.M.B.A. applicants only: Describe a recent international issue or event that has negatively affected the business or economic climate of a particular region of the world. How would you address this issue? What are the implications of your approach? (750 words maximum)

5. (Optional) If there is further information that you believe would be helpful to the admissions committee, please feel free to provide it. (All applicants)

 

ESSAY 2002-2003

1.  Why are you seeking an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business? What do you hope to experience and contribute? What are your plans and goals after you receive your degree? (750 words)

2. You have been selected to lead a team of three people to develop a new idea. What would the members of your team have in common? How would they be different? How will you motivate the team to succeed? (750 words)

3. You have been nominated as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2013 and asked to deliver a speech. What are the key elements to your success? What advice would you give your peers? (500 words)
