The new edition of the Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman is a tribute to a piece of real and cinematic diving history: the diver’s Watch, which was made for the so-called frogmen, the combat swimmers of the United States Navy in the second world war, and was to see frogmen from 1951 as the first-ever Hamilton Watch on the big screen in the film.
This first foray into the world of the film should have been not Hamilton’s last: the 1892 founded brand is still very active in film and television:
Brand ambassadors of the Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman is the free Diver (divers) Pierre Frolla, who grew up with flippers on the feet and in 2004 his fourth world record in the variable weight category schaffte. Frolla managed 123 meters, a funky depth, weighs in on every square centimetre a weight of 13 kg. Only a well-trained divers to withstand this pressure.
All models, which were designed by Pierre Frolla, are hardly ignorable Crown protection. This is inspired by the previous model from the design unsuccessful years with his 1951 at a military canteen. Also it stands simple dial and the big hand in the eye in this series, to ensure good readability.
Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman: the 46mm wide titanium flagship with red bezel
The 46 mm titanium model has a fancy red, unidirectional rotating bezel. They framed a black dial with luminous triple faceted hands. Titanium is 60% lighter than stainless steel, making the Hamilton is good to wear khaki Navy Frogman despite the size.
According to timedictionary.com, there are also other important elements that you may expect from a ‘real’ dive watch: is water resistant up to a pressure of 100 bar, as well as a helium valve, which allows a balance between internal and external pressure conditions, such as at the saturation diving,.
Chic: The massive case back is with a mask or mask provided (see below). The model is driven automatic movement by the Hamilton caliber H-10, a heavily modified Swiss ETA 2824 with 80-stündiger power reserve.
The rubber strap is decorated and equipped with a ribbed edge tone on tone that stands in contrast to the other wrist structure:
The “little brother”: Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman with 42mm in blue and black
The collection includes two robust 42-mm stainless steel variants, which can be worn instead of the rubber strap with a stainless steel bracelet. The models are available in two colors with blue or black bezel (and each matching dial and bracelet).
Like its “big brother”, the 42 mm models of the Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman H-10 work, anti-reflective Sapphire Crystal characterized as well as a thanks to Super-LumiNova® luminous markers easily readable dial out. Water resistant up to a pressure of 30 bar, they come out without helium valve – but still nothing in the way should be the amateur dive.
Alternatives to the Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman
Two alternatives to the 42 mm version of the Hamilton come also from the Swatch Group, one of the oldest registered watch brand in the world: Longines. The Longines HydroConquest, which available in blue and black is that costs in the 41 mm gents large variant similar to much as the presented Hamilton: just under €1000.
Again much cheaper and with a super value for money: The Certina DS action diver with Swiss ETA automatic movement, Sapphire Crystal and 43 mm case. Available E.g. from Amazon at a bargain price of approx. 500€: Certina DS action diver at Amazon. The model is also available as versions with blue bezel, blue dial, as well as gray bezel and grey dial. The latter model is however not stainless steel, but lightweight titanium and is therefore also slightly more expensive.
