San Francisco California
|
San Francisco with certain expectations: cable cars,
Chinatown, the Golden Gate Bridge, pastel Victorian
homes fronting steep, lawnless streets. But what's
surprising about San Francisco is that it's all so
unfamiliar when you arrive. The bell of the cable car
sounds different when you're actually onboard, rounding
a corner that goes both abruptly up and sharply to the
left. The bell rises above the ratcheting of the cable
and the babel of languages, as distinct amid the clamor
as a foghorn floating through the early morning mist.
