9 Cyanogen: Delays and Few Terminals

Finally there is news about the latest version of Cyanogen (version 9 based Ice Cream Sandwich). The most popular ROM has published in its official blog how the development, and not all are good news, unfortunately.

The change experienced in Android Ice Cream Sandwich It is considerable, and for example the graphics driver must be completely changed. Unfortunately these drivers are owners in their vast majority (i.e. is not free software) and for now many devices are not supported until they leave the respective Devkits. Other things do not work well, for example the camera.

In addition to these problems, CM9 is rewriting from scratch. Some options will be deleted, which is less used. The intention is that everything is easier, without ceasing to be a highly-configurable ROM. Cyanogen intends that the mobile will as well with CM9 as with the original software, which seems CM9 has been thinking fully about this mobile.

Currently CM9 can compile for few terminals, basically Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, HP Touchpad and Motorola Xoom. Everything is based on the Exynos chipset will be supported. Up next is to support Qualcomm MSM8660 chipsets and 7 × 30. Is not yet clear that it can support chipsets based on QSD8 × 50 (e.g., Nexus One) but everything indicates that.
